A mindfulness experience to connect young people with nature.

There’s currently a challenge in the UK with connecting young people with nature. The Carbon Landscape Project and Lancashire Wildlife Trust originally came to me with a challenge: to engage young people and create a mindfulness experience that they could use to connect with nature.

Working with The Turnpike, we developed and facilitated a series of workshops for 8-11 year olds that focused on nature and storytelling, giving the young people learning opportunities alongside the chance to exercise their imagination.

The content from the young people and their responses to the workshop helped to inform the structure of the script, and we reworked some of the activities we’d done together and the young people’s answers to create a twenty minute experience that could be enjoyed from home. Creative Director, Jason Lock and his team took the script and created a fantastic audio experience, with beautiful narration from Rachel Toal and sound design from Kyle Martyn-Clark.

Ready for launch, we developed the workshops into three lesson plans and resource packs for teachers, which were sent to teachers across Wigan, Leigh and Warrington - while the walk was made available on Spotify, iTunes and YouTube, and promoted throughout the North West.

“We are so pleased with the work from Pen and Think. The quality of her writing is exceptional. I am sure this piece of writing will touch the hearts and help so many people on their journey to connect with green spaces and themselves. It is a healing piece of work.”
